As long-time readers of this blog may remember, “Never shopped at Wal-Mart” is chiseled into my tombstone in the Trachsville cemetery.
Now I read in the Sierra Club magazine that Amazon used enough plastic bubble wrap in 2019 to encircle the globe 500 times. I’d add “Never shopped at Amazon, either,” but it is really expensive to have that done.
Sorry, I shop at Amazon all the time. Number one is you can get anything under the sun and usually have it next day or two. For now I do not need to risk our health by going out in public much during the Pandemic. They also employ hundreds of thousand people all across the country. Everyone else contributes to the evils of using plastic that also contributes to waste. Just look at the Milk industry. Hard to find anything but plastic, drinks too. We could go on forever. I Like Amazon.
ReplyDeleteI agree about the plastics. It seems you can't escape them. On the other hand, Amazon may be worse than Wal-Mart for driving out small businesses. I know I can't stop them, but it would be good if Congress at least broke Amazon up into smaller companies like it did with Ma Bell. Where is our trust-busting Teddy Roosevelt when we need him.
ReplyDeleteI still will never believe that the breakup of Ma Bell was ever a great idea for the average consumer. At the time we only paid less than $10 a month, now we pay in the $40's. On the Amazon issue. They do work with a lot of small business's whereas they act as an agent, on commission. Many things do come from them and not a Amazon warehouse. We just do not have as many storefront stores anymore. Amazon does employ a lot of people at there centers and does pay a good wage scale too. Like I said I do like Amazon.
