Democratic Booth at "Weisstock"

For approximately twelve years the small town of Weissport held a “Redneck Festival.”  At the first one in 2008, Linda and I set up a very popular booth entitled “Rednecks for Obama.”  Unfortunately, in subsequent years that festival deteriorated, with drinking, thuggish behavior, Confederate flags, and a raffle for assault rifles.  Three years ago the festival was terminated.

Now Weissport has a new two-day festival, entitled “Weisstock.”  Get it–like Woodstock.  This one is more family- and community-oriented, with almost all local people.  The Carbon County Democrats have a booth with yard signs, literature, and voter registration forms.  We’ve encountered good responses, pleasant people, and great weather.  The festival has fewer people than the old Redneck Festival, but it is a community event of the type that once was common in America.
