The Republican-controlled legislature in Ohio has called a special election on Tuesday to change the rules on the state’s initiative process. They are proposing to raise the threshold for state constitutional amendments from a majority to 60%. This is to ensure that a constitutional amendment protecting the right to an abortion won’t pass when it is on the ballot in November.
Republicans are good at this. Dems vote more by mail–get rid of mail ballots. Dems win more legislative elections–gerrymander the districts. Dems allow former felons who have served their time to vote–change the rules on felons voting. Dems win more college student votes–limit where college students can vote. If you can’t win a fair election, cheat. And then claim the Dems stole the election when you lose.
