Last week two planes collided at the Haneda Airport in Tokyo. In the smaller plane five Coast Guard members on their way to help earthquake victims were killed. On the JAL plane all 367 passengers, 12 crew members, and the pilot all made it to safety, going down the emergency slides with no major injuries.
The amazing thing is that nobody panicked, nobody tried to push ahead, and people were orderly, even though some emergency doors were jammed, flames were visible, and the plane was filled with smoke.
If that plane had been filled with Americans, would the behavior of the passengers have been the same?
No.
