For approximately the last ten years we have been supplying tents for the Carbon County Democratic Party booth at the county fair. We have lost five or six of those tents because of rain storms. What happens is the rain pools in the canvas and the weight pulls the tent down and bends or breaks the supports. Last year the County Party bought a new tent that had a steep top so the water wouldn’t pool. Unfortunately, nobody remembers where we put that tent.
As a consequence we volunteered to use a tent we owned. It wasn’t a great tent because it didn’t have sides, but we improvised. Last night after the heavy rain, the tent collapsed and the entire structure was ruined. Our volunteers put up another tent this afternoon, but we are expecting heavy rains on Friday from tropical storm Debby. Hopefully this latest tent will survive, but I am not optimistic.
Today we bought a new tent. Political participation can be expensive. But worth every penny. Right?
Considering that we're supposed to get 3 inches of rain tomorrow, maybe we should be thinking about a rubber life raft instead of a tent!
ReplyDeleteIn addition the area where the Fair is located is subject to ponding. I think it might qualify as a wetland.
