Democracy hangs on

I’m tempted to say “by a thread,” but it is still alive in this country.  The House did not impeach Homeland Security Secretary Mayorkas, although it came within one vote.  I don’t know very much about what the Secretary did or did not do, but it certainly didn’t rise to the level of “high crimes and misdemeanors.”  Majorie Taylor Greene was the chief sponsor of this move, just in case you want to know how serious these people are.

Also, a U.S. Court of Appeals ruled that Trump was not above the law; he does not have immunity.  That this was even a question is mind-boggling.  I thought we decided this in 1215 with the Magna Carta.

On the other hand, about 60 House Republicans, including that paragon of virtue Matt Gaetz and that Vice Presidential wannabe candidate Elise Stefanik, have introduced a resolution saying that Trump did not engage in insurrection.  Good to know.
