In 2008 President Obama was elected by a healthy majority of votes. Democrats were a majority in the U.S. Senate and the U.S. House of Representatives.
Two years later the “Tea Party” movement erupted, and the Republicans won a majority in the House.
We have two years in which the Republicans will be in control of all three branches of government, and not just any Republicans, but Republicans of the far right. It will be difficult for Democrats to win the House in 2018, since Republican state legislatures have gerrymandered congressional districts and over thirty states have made it more difficult for citizens to vote.
On the other hand, the Republicans now own this government. They will be in charge when the economy goes sour, when the wall is not built, when coal remains too expensive, when trade wars erupt, when the Middle East remains a war zone.
So buckle up. We have two years to turn this thing around.
This is the beginning of a long national nightmare. There is still the matter the ten women who came forward with sexual assault accusations. Also there is the issue of Trump University.
ReplyDeleteI just hope the Senate does the same thing that Mitch McConnell did to Obama.
I'm proud to say that Illinois did it's part when we elected Tammy Duckworth to the Senate. It was a lot of hard work but well worth it.
We did not do a good job here in PA. Sad to say. Its still sad to say, but only about half of people who could register do not. They do a lot complaining about the Gov't and do nothing. I guess we will see in sometime how it works out. All the promises he made will be hard to keep. He sure did bring out the worse in lots of people and I am sorry that I heard this hate towards people from my own family tree. And, they claim to be Christians. It makes one want to not bother with them. In a way you would like to see them suffer when their Obama care ends and they no longer have any insurance and have to pay the high cost of medical bills.
ReplyDeleteI wonder about the health care myself. If Paul Ryan and the Congress eliminate the health care policy, about 20 million people will be without any health insurance. When the reality of that hits, I don't think they will do it, but I am not longer sure of anything.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, congratulations to Illinois. Tammy Duckworth is truly wonderful.
