Republicans fight composting

When Nancy Pelosi was Speaker of the House, the Democratic majority moved the Capitol to more environmental-friendly policies.  Among the changes was one obligating the food vendors in the House cafeterias to provide dishes that could be composted.
The Republicans have now ended this program.  Vendors are again using styrofoam cups and plastic utensils.  The Republicans say this is a cost-cutting move.
I’m not buying that.  This is one more way for the Republican majority to thumb its nose at environmentalists.  This is one more way to make a statement that Democratic policies will be opposed no matter how beneficial simply because they are Democratic policies.

  1. Why would anyone choose to drink out of a styrofoam cup?! I thought that it was common knowledge that besides being environmentally unfriendly, styrofoam is hazardous to your health when ingested. I really cannot put into print my opinion about this decision. I suppose that the next move will be a proposal to tear up Michelle Obama's organic garden, claiming that it is not cost efficient.

  2. They could use Paper cups. Trees regrow. Oil does not. And, it makes work for men in planting, harvesting, processing, etc to make paper products. This is an American industry. Someone should tell the GOP about this and then they would help create some jobs that they said they would do in the last election.
