When we remember what happened to our country on 9/11, we also must remember what happened subsequently. The U.S. attack on Iraq was a major error. While Saddam Hussein was a terrible dictator, no evidence has ever been produced that he had anything to do with 9/11.
I think even the invasion of Afghanistan was done with the wrong approach. Afghanistan has been a problem for would-be conquerors from Alexander the through the British, the Soviets, and finally the U.S. It should have a punitive expedition: root out Al-Qaeda and get out as quickly and as casualties as possible. It ended the same way Viet Bam did.
ReplyDeleteDuring the Vietnam War people would sometimes say, "How will victory be defined?" The same thing was true of Afghanistan. How could we determine when the war was won?
