Campaign investments

If you wonder why American politics is so skewed to the Right, here’s a factoid from an article by Eduardo Porter in the September 4th Times:

In 2012, the top 0.1 percent of donors contributed more than 44% of all campaign contributions.  In 1980 their share of contributions was less than 10%.

One-tenth of one percent is giving 44% of the money.  The Supreme Court says money equals free speech.  Maybe so, but it is rather obvious that the speech of the rich is drowning out the rest of us.

We should also be clear that a campaign contribution is an investment.  The investor expects a return.  If you look at the votes in the House, you will see the investments are paying off.
