Meeting Ed Pawlowski

Allentown mayor and gubernatorial candidate Ed Pawlowski visited the Democratic Information Center in Lehighton this morning, meeting with about a dozen Democratic activists.

He discussed how Corbett has run this state into the ground (education cuts, social service cuts, low job growth, failure to put a severance tax on natural gas extraction, inability to pass a transportation bill in spite of the fact that Republicans hold a majority in both legislative houses).

He talked about how he rejuvenated Allentown (Pennsylvania’s third largest city), and he mentioned that he had bipartisan support for his initiatives.

He noted that there are seven Democratic candidates for governor right now, and that five of them are from the Philadelphia area, giving him a good shot at the rest of the state.  He also said he was the only Democratic candidate who has had executive experience actually running a government.

I went to the meeting prepared to be underwhelmed, but I was impressed.  I am not ready to endorse Mayor Pawlowski yet, but I’m certainly not writing him off.
