A delegation of House Republicans visited Egypt this past weekend. They were not impressive. Rep. Bachmann implied that the Muslim Brotherhood was behind the 9/11 attacks. She called the Brotherhood “terrorists” and stood with the Egyptian generals, saying “We don’t have a choice. They [the Brotherhood] must be defeated”
Her companion, Rep. Louie Gohmert of Texas, compared General el-Sisi to George Washington. He also said el-Sisi reminded him of Thomas Jefferson. “Stand strong, Egypt, stand firm,” Gohmert said.
An expert on the Muslim Brotherhood at the University of Oklahoma compared the news conference in Egypt to “a Saturday Night Live skit--unbelievable, ludicrous, almost comic if it wasn’t so painful.”
